My PhD research is, to put it simple, about understanding who is the online learner.

Mmmm... this doesn't actually give any hint about my research. So, let's try it in a little longer form: my PhD research is, to put it simple, about understanding the behavior of the online learner.

Oops, again something important is missing. Well, what I meant was that my PhD reserach is, to put it simple, about the behavior of the online learner while learning.

Well, this doesn't sound like anything that wasn't done since the invention of the Web (back in 1993). Truly enough, this is actually only the first part of my main interest. So, my PhD reserach is, simply to say, about how to automatically portray the behavior of the online learner while learning.

All right, this is close enough to the reality, but still something is missing... Oh, the more-than-just-a-methodology methodology... What I really want to do is, simply to say, to understand how to automatically portray the behavior of the online learner while learning, using only data from the system log files.

Reading it now loud, I think this last statement tells about the whole truth of my research. However, in second thought, it is not so simple at all...
